    • Takachiho Gorge

      Long ago, pyroclastic flows erupted due to volcanic activity at Mount Aso.
      The gorge is a columnar shape formed by the water flowing in a ribbon along the Gokase River and cooling rapidly.
      The 7km-long high cliffs have been designated as a national scenic spot and natural monument.
      Why not take a rental boat (for a fee) and enjoy the beautiful and mysterious valley?
    • Takachiho Shrine

      The main shrine was designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan in 2004.
      The main hall was rebuilt in 1778 and is one of the largest in Kyushu, built in the Gokensha Nagare-zukuri style.
      At the Kagura Hall on the temple grounds, Takachiho Kagura is performed every night from 8:00 PM to 9:00 PM for tourists.

    • Josenji Temple Weeping Cherry Blossoms

      Josenji is a small, quiet old temple founded in the early Edo period.
      Within the temple grounds stands a weeping cherry tree that is approximately 300 years old.
      The weeping cherry tree is said to have been brought back by the head priest at the time on his way back from a pilgrimage to Honganji Temple in Kyoto.
      It creates a magnificent landscape that is reminiscent of a Heian picture scroll.
    • Unoko Falls

      A majestic waterfall with a drop of 20m and a basin of 5,000m².
      The water is surrounded by strangely shaped columnar rocks and flows through the dense trees, creating a truly impressive sight.
      There is a walking trail from the Sankasho Iwagami area, and if you walk along the perimeter of the waterfall basin at the end,

      Kiritategoe is an ancient road that follows the ridges of Mt. Mukozaka, Mt. Shiraiwa, and Mt. Ogi in the Kyushu Mountain Range.
      This was the road over Shiiba that Heike clan fugitives fled on, and also the road along which supplies were transported by horse from Higo.
      From spring to autumn, you can see rare alpine flowering plants on Mt. Shiraiwa, famous for its alpine plant communities, and Mt. Ogi, which offers spectacular views.
