A place where you can experience nature and culture

It's a 5-minute walk from Lake Kussharo, and tourist sites such as Mt Io are also nearby, making it very convenient!
Please use this as a base for sightseeing.
  • Around Kunpu no Mori KOSO

    • Lake Kussharo

      Circumference: 57km,Area: 79.3 km²,Maximum depth 117.5m,
      It is a caldera lake that is the sixth largest in Japan (the largest caldera lake).
      Although the area is completely frozen over during the winter, 400 to 500 swans visit every year, delighting the eyes of visitors.
    • Mt Io

      Mount Mt Io rose up due to a major eruption that occurred in Kussharo Caldera about 8,000 years ago.
      Even now, sulfurous smoke can be heard rising from all over the place.
      You'll enjoy the unique smell and unusual scenery of alpine plants growing in the lowlands.
      During tourist season, the area is also famous for its boiled eggs, which are made using the natural hot spring steam that gushes out from the foot of the mountain!
    • Lake Mashu

      Lake Mashu is a caldera lake.
      A caldera is a depression formed when a volcano collapses after a volcanic eruption.
      It is located 11km from Teshikaga Town and 12km from Kawayu Onsen. The lake surface is 351m above sea level.
      It is a caldera lake with a circumference of approximately 20km, an area of 19.2km2 and a maximum depth of 211.4m, and boasts some of the world's most transparent waters.
      It is also called "Misty Lake Mashu" and is often shrouded in mist, making it difficult to see.
      There is even a legend that says that if an unmarried person sees Lake Mashu without the mist, their marriage will be delayed.
      Furthermore, its unique deep blue color is also known as "Mashu Blue."
    • Sand bath

      "Sunayu" is a must-see tourist spot on Shore of Lake Kussharo.
      It is a mysterious place where hot springs immediately bubble up when you dig 5 to 10 cm into the sand on the lakeside.
      You can see people everywhere soaking in open-air baths that they have made after swimming.
      This has made it one of the most popular campsites in eastern Hokkaido.
    • Bihoro Pass

      You can enjoy a pleasant view of the cobalt blue Lake Kussharo.
      Approximately 20 minutes by car from the hotel.
  • Kunpu no Mori KOSO's secret spot

    • Mount Mokoto

      This volcano forms the northern part of the outer rim of the Kussharo Caldera.
      The altitude is 1,000m, and halfway up, at an altitude of 725m, there is the highland observation deck "Highland Koshimizu 725".
      On a clear day, you can enjoy a magnificent view of Lake Kussharo, Mt Io, Mount Shari, and the Shiretoko mountain range.
      There is a grassy area at the top of the mountain where you can see alpine plants.
    • Tsubetsu Pass

      It is located northwest of Lake Kussharo, between Samakkari-nupuri and Kotoninupuri.
      The altitude is 754m, and 200m above it is the Tsubetsu Pass Observatory (947m above sea level).
      On a clear day, you can see the Wakoto Peninsula, Lake Kussharo, Mt. Meakan, Mt. Oakan, and other mountains.
      There are few tourists visiting, making it my husband's favorite tourist spot.
