The color of the sea as seen from a ship, known as "Shakotan Blue," is incredibly mystical and beautiful.
You can enjoy it casually, just like going to see tourist spots or scenic locations.

Cape Kamui, which juts out into the Sea of Japan from the northwestern part of the Shakotan Peninsula, is said to be the most beautiful cape in Japan.
The color of the sea visible from here is also known as "Shakotan Blue," and it's as beautiful as Okinawa.
From the tip of the cape, you can see Kamui Rock.

Shimamui Coast, one of Japan's Top 100 Beaches, is a tourist spot where you can descend to the water's edge amidst towering cliffs.
Emerging from a narrow, dark tunnel, the sudden appearance of the vibrant sea below is truly breathtaking.

【The Legend of Princess Shirara Who Became a Jorōko Rock】
It is said that long ago, Minamoto no Yoshitsune, pursued by his brother Yoritomo, fled to this area and hid in the home of an Ainu chief.
And it is said that Shirara-hime, the chief's only daughter, became attracted to Yoshitsune and fell in love with him.

However, pursuers were closing in from Oshu, so that night Yoshitsune secretly escaped by boat without informing Princess Shirara.
When Princess Shirara learned of this, she was so heartbroken that she threw herself into the sea and ended her own life.
It is said that this rock eventually became the "Jorokko-iwa" (Woman's Rock), which stands sadly at the tip of the Shakotan Peninsula.
It looks like the back of a woman who is gazing out at the sea forever.

Nozuka Campsite is a popular spot where you can camp while enjoying the spectacular view of the Sea of Japan, known as "Shakotan Blue."
From the campsite, you can enjoy views of the Shakotan Blue sea and the impressive scenery of Cape Kamui with its unique topography.

There is no charge for using the Nozuka Campsite.
There is no management building, so you don't need to check in. You can park your car in the parking lot and pitch your tent wherever you like.
One notable feature is that many campers use Nozuka Campsite as a base for sightseeing on the Shakotan Peninsula.
The only facilities available are a toilet (wheelchair accessible) and a well-covered kitchen.
