- ◆Firing in a climbing kiln built on a slope lasts approximately 60 hours, reaching a maximum temperature of 1,300 degrees.Ashes from the firewood fall onto the vessel, and the enormous energy of the flames and ash is reflected on the vessel's surface, creating a tasteful, matte finish. This technique is called "ash coating."(Haikazuki)"※It's number 1.
※1. "Haikazuki" can be read as "hai kazuki" or "hai katsugi."
◆When unglazed pieces are placed in the chamber (large mouth) at the front of the climbing kiln, the large mouth is filled with flames and a large amount of ash creates a naturally glazed piece.
