The vicinity of Gennai, there are many spots where you can feel the history, such as the Itotori Preservation Museum, Nagahama Castle, and Kurokabe Square.

  • Itotori Material Preservation Museum

      Shamisen and Kotoito no Sato

      Shamisen and koto thread are still made here in the two villages of Oto and Nishiyama the old-fashioned method.
      At present, only four houses remain in two villages.This is a seasonal job that runs from mid-June to early August every year.In the museum, various tools used for this thread are displayed.
      If you would like to see where the yarn is being made, you can watch the demonstration.(Reservation required)

      Enjoy the Japanese space of the late Edo period

      The historic building from the Edo to the Meiji era was renovated, and it was born as about 30 spots including a glass building, a workshop, and a restaurant.
      Recommended is an experience classroom.There are sand blasting for painting frosted glass on cups, burner work for melting colored glass to make accessories, and stained mini lamps for soldering to your favorite glass.

  • Nagahama Castle Histrical Museum

    • 25 minutes by car from Gennai

      Enjoy a superb view of Lake Biwa from the observatory

      Nagahama Castle, where Hideyoshi Toyotomi became the master of one castle for the first time.
      It is also known as "Shusse-Jo".
      In 1983, the castle tower was restored and opened as a history museum.
      Inside the facility, the history of Kohoku from the Jomon Time Period to the present age is introduced, and Hideyoshi's Helmet and the Shizugatake Battle Screen are displayed, and you can see Lake Biwa from the observatory.

  • Lake Biwa National Park Mt. Shizugatake(Shizugatake)

      The only scenic spot in Lake Okubiwa Okubiwa

      Mt. Shigigatake between Lake Biwa and Lake Yogo.It is known as one of the eight views of Lake Biwa.

  • Mishima Pond

    • 30 minutes by car from Gennai

      Designated as a natural monument of the prefecture as a mallard natural breeding ground

      Mishima Pond is known as the southernmost natural breeding limit for mallards, and was designated a prefectural natural monument in 1959.
      In addition to waterfowl, you can also see many mountain birds in the surrounding mountains.
      In addition to a visitor center where birds can be observed, there is a tennis court, campground and athletic facilities in the adjacent Green Park Shandong, making it a major outdoor spot.
