  • Highlights of Shuzenji Temple

    • Shuzenji Temple

      Shuzenji Temple was founded in 807 by Kobo Daishi Kukai, the founder of Shingon Buddhism.
      The bell ringing on New Year's Eve is held, and Shussui-e and Daihannya-inori prayers are held from midnight on January 1st, praying for good health and good fortune in the new year.

    • Tokko no Yu

      He saw a child pouring water on the injured area of his elderly father in the Katsura River and felt sorry for him.
      He broke the rock with his dokko (a ritual implement used in esoteric Buddhism, with sharp points on both ends),
      It is said that the hot springs began when hot water gushed out.

    • Bamboo Forest Path

      A promenade along the Katsura River that flows through the center of the hot spring town.
      After sunset, the area is lit up, allowing you to enjoy a stroll at night.

    • Love Bridge Tour

      It is said that if you walk around all three of the bridges over the Katsura River - Togetsu Bridge, Kokei Bridge, Katsura Bridge, Kaede Bridge, and Takishita Bridge - your love will come true.
    • It was built by Kobo Daishi as the guardian deity of the neighboring Shuzenji Temple, and was separated from Shuzenji Temple in 1868 due to the Shinto-Buddhist separation order.

      Hie Shrine

      A quiet shrine located to the east of Shuzenji Temple.
      Within the grounds, there is a giant yew tree that has been designated a prefectural natural monument,
      There is a legend that if you pass between the two cedar trees, you will be blessed with children.
      There is an 800-year-old "Child-bearing Cedar" tree here, and it is considered a power spot for fertility.
    • Shizukiden

      Located at the foot of Shuzenji Temple, opposite Shuzenji Temple, Shigetsuden was built by Hojo Masako as a memorial temple for her son, Yoriie, to pray for his repose.
      It is said to be the oldest wooden building Izu, and within its grounds are the graves of Minamoto no Yoriie and the Thirteen Ronin.
    • red frog park

      When Kensaku Shimaki visited Shuzenji Temple to recuperate from an illness, he noticed a red frog trying to cross the Katsura River from a sandbar to the other side, and this was the subject of his short story, "Red Frog."
      A small park was created in this location and is called Red Frog Park.
      Cherry blossoms bloom from late March to early April, and the "Firefly Evening" is held from late May to early June, allowing you to enjoy the fantastic light of the fireflies.
    • Orthodox Church of Christ

      Shuzenji Onsen Prefectural Cultural Property that exudes an exotic atmosphere in Shuzenji Onsen. "Orthodox Church of Christ"
      The structure is Japanese architecture, but the exterior is Western-style.
      There is only a small chance to visit on this day.

    • Shuzenji Temple Rainbow Village

      The Autumn Leaves Festival "Autumn Dream Lights" will be held from November 8th to December 14th, 2025, and fireworks can be enjoyed over just three days.
      The large park is home to British Village, Canadian Village, Izu Village, and other villages, all of which can be traveled by Romney bus.

    • Bicycle Country Cycle Sports Center

      Bicycle amusement park.
      The "Interesting Bicycles" collection, which features uniquely shaped bicycles that cannot be ridden on public roads, is popular.
      The Cycle Sports Center has three cycling course that are open to the public.
      It is home to Japan's first 250m track stadium with a wooden boardwalk, which was also used as an Olympic venue and is a facility for athletes.
      The full-scale 5km circuit is used not only for various cycling competitions but also for new car test drives.

    • Izu Panorama Park

      You can enjoy a magnificent panoramic view of Mount Fuji and Suruga Bay.
      The ropeway ride to the summit is 1,800m, and you'll be amazed at how fast it is, taking just seven minutes one way!

    • Izu Mito Sea Paradise

      The dolphin show, which is full of highlights, and the largest kids' corner in the area are popular attractions.
      There is a special plan available only on weekdays that includes admission to the aquarium and hot springs.

    • Numazu Deep Sea Aquarium Coelacanth Museum

      The only aquarium in Japan that specializes in the deep sea.
      Over 100 species of deep-sea creatures from Suruga Bay, the deepest bay in Japan, and around the world are on display.
      Octopus, bird foot, small sea cucumber, giant squid, red clam, giant nautilus, sawtooth shark, naked crab, etc.

    • Suruga Bay Ferry

      We course taking the ferry to Toi Port and then driving along Izu Skyline to Shuzenji Temple Onsen.
      It takes 65 minutes by car from Shimizu Port to Izu Toi Port, and about 40 minutes by car from Toi Port to Shuzenji Onsen.
