  • Mihonoseki Myth

The land of Izumo appears many times in Japan's grand and generous mythology.
Yes, this is the very beginning of the world.
Wouldn't you like to come and meet these "Myriad gods" who are surprisingly human-like and endearing?
    • Morotabune Shinji (Many-Handed Boat Ritual)(December 3)

The story of the country puller

The beginning of the world, the age of the Yaorozu Gods...
There was a giant god in Izumo.
The giant thought, "The land of Izumo where clouds rise, is small, young, and incomplete."
I found some "country surplus" on Noto Peninsula.
We pulled it in with a rope while chanting, "Kuniko, Kuniko."
And then it was sewn together. "Mihonoseki"
It is said that the rope used at that time is now Yumigahama Beach, and the stakes were made by Mt. Oyama.
It is also a magnificent story.
    • Aofushigaki Shinji( Blue brushwood fence ritual)(April 7)

A story inherited from the country

Kotoshironushi no Mikoto enshrined at Miho Shrine is Ebisu-sama.
He is the eldest son of Okuninushi no Mikoto, the deity enshrined at Izumo Oyashiro (Izumo Taisha Grand Shrine) Shrine.
To Okuninushi-no Okuninushi no Mikoto, who once ruled Izumo Province,
Takemikazuchi-no-kami descended as an emissary of Amaterasu Omikami and negotiated the transfer of the land.
Okuninushi no Mikoto hastily sent a messenger to Mihonoseki Kotoshironushi no Mikoto,
After consultation, Kotoshironushi no Mikoto replied, "You should yield."
Then they built a fence of sakaki leaves into the sea and hid themselves there.
And the transfer of power was carried out smoothly.
Morotabune Shinji (Many-Handed Boat Ritual) and Aofushigaki Shinji( Blue brushwood fence ritual) are performed based on this historical event.
The two festivals held at Miho Shrine recreate the scenes from that time and continue to this day.
