  • How to spend time at Ootomoya

    Hijiori Onsen is a place where anyone can enjoy nostalgic scenery and a relaxing atmosphere.
    Enjoy a relaxing stay, whether you stay for one or two nights.
    • 15:00 Check-in

      Once you enter your room and put down your luggage, the first thing you should do is have a smoke break by the hearth on the first floor.
      We gather around the hearth at the entrance, reminiscent of a traditional Japanese home.
      Have a break with instant coffee or tea.
      Please come and discuss your plans for future walks or ask for travel advice.
    • 15:30 First, take a bath

      First, take a bath to wash away the fatigue and dirt from your trip.
      The bubbling Hijiori waters of Hijiori will relax your mind.
      This is because Hijiori Onsen is rich in metasilicic acid, which is unique to Hijiori Onsen.
      It has a very relaxing effect.
    • 15:30 to 19:30 Hijiori around Hijiori

      You can roughly walk around Hijiori Onsen in about an hour.
      After walking to Gensen Park, which is about a 5-minute walk from the inn,
      We started our leisurely stroll with some handmade dango from the nearby Haga Dango Shop in hand.
      The murmuring of the Dozan River and the four bridges create a unique atmosphere.
    • 15:30 to 17:00The birthplace of Hijiori Onsen"Upper Bath"

      The public bath is just a one-minute walk from the inn. "Upper Bath"
      Enter through the noren curtain and join the local regulars.
      Please enjoy the warm conversation of Hijiori as we share stories of our travels and old times.
      The clear water will make you feel refreshed.

      Enjoy your meal at a restaurant where you can chat casually.
      I was surprised by the volume.
      Since it is a lodge in the mountains, everything is handmade.
      It's not fancy, but we're confident in the deliciousness.

    • 5:30 to 7:30 Hijiori Specialty"Morning Market"

      If you come to Hijiori Onsen, you can't go without seeing this. "Morning Market"
      I was surprised at the number of shops lined up along the street.
      Spirited shouts and the clattering of wooden clogs.
      It's as lively as a festival day.

    • 6:00 to 7:00 Morning bath at the private bath "Nagomi no Yu"(Free)

      Enjoy your morning bath while soaking up the sunshine.
      The bright and spacious bathroom has a fresh, pleasant wood scent.
      Enjoy a luxurious stay at Ootomoya, having the hot springs of Hijiori all to yourself.
    • 7:00 to 8:00 This is the Japanese breakfast

      Crisp boiled freshly picked vegetables and piping hot grilled fish.
      Although they are by no means high-end, the freshness and freshly made taste of the ingredients are unmatched anywhere else.
    • 10:00 to 10:30 Take a break by the hearth before heading out

      We relaxed and chatted about our travel plans for the day.

    • 11:00 Late check-out

      There is ample check-out time and you won't be rushed.
      If you have time to explore Hijiori, you can store your luggage at the front desk.
      We can also provide information on nearby attractions, so please feel free to ask.
  • Hijiori Walk

    Hijiori Onsen is a place best enjoyed by leisurely strolling, with its small alleys and bridges remaining much like they were in the past.
    It is made to the size of a person, not a car.
    Why not take a leisurely stroll and enjoy the atmosphere here?

      The retro wooden building was built in 1937 and was in use until 2000.
      It is currently used as a venue for mini concerts.

      Morning market at Hijiori Onsen

      Hijiori Onsen morning market is open from 5:30am to 7am from April to September.
      The friendly ladies made their own products,
      They sell produce harvested from the mountains and fields.
      I enjoy the lively conversations at the hot spring baths.

      Komatsubuchi

      A scenic spot at Hijiori Onsen and Dozan River.
      It is a beautiful valley with a large, undulating river and the colorful greenery and autumn leaves.
      It is located right next to Hijiori Onsen Ideyukan.
      There is a legend of a giant snake.
    • From "Gensen Park", a 5-minute walk from the hotel

      Hijiori Onsen Walking Trail

      It is about 4km to Jizokura, a mountain with a series of strangely shaped rocks at its summit.
      Walk along the beech mountain path while enjoying the forest bathing.
      Enjoy the rich nature of Hijiori Onsen.

      Beyond the beautiful rice terraces there are spectacular views of villages and the Commonwealth.

      Buckwheat field

      On the plateau near Yunodai, from late August to early September,
      You can see buckwheat fields covered with beautiful pure white flowers all around.

      This is the birthplace of Hijiori Onsen, located in the middle of the hot spring town.
      It has the atmosphere of an old-fashioned public bathhouse and is a social gathering place for locals.

      This is a masterpiece from Koya Sake Brewery, which has been brewing sake in Okura Village for 400 years.
      It has a gorgeous and fruity taste.
